The differentiation between conservation and preservation comes from the understanding of the concepts of both terms and their meanings. These terms are interchangeable used and even though they have some similarities in their concepts, they encompass and reveal different meanings. Conservation deals with the precautionary steps that are taken to prevent damages from happening to materials, this is a preventive method to ensure that damages that have not occurred do not occur. On the other hand, preservation deals with procedure of ensuring that repairs are made to the materials that have already been damaged.
Conservation depicts the protection of the environment and being able to manage the resources as well as being able to utilize the managed resources. Preservation is strictly an act that exhibits complete or total protection of the environment from being touched or utilized, it allows the environment to be left in their natural state.
I do believe that humans can harvest forest resources in an environmentally friendly way and I am inclined to that belief. It is one thing to harvest the resources and another thing to do it in a friendly way. I think that as far as the harvested resources are replenished, they will not go into extinction. Take for instance, we have vast forest with mighty trees, if the trees are not harvested, we will not have wooden chairs, beds and even planks to build our houses, most of these forest resources are used to benefit humans by way of food, medicines, essential materials etc.
It is good to know that this area of the Bridger Teton National Forest can provide oil and gas that will offset our dependence on foreign sources but it will be useless and unbeneficial if it is not mined, it is like having food on the table and still crying of hunger.
